Caqalai Island
( say: thung-gulie ) is a 14 acres coral island south of Ovalau
in a sea area known as Moturiki Passage.
Caqalai Backpacker Hostel is run by the Methodist Church of
Fiji.
It is located on the eastern side of Fiji's main island Viti
Levu, well off the main tourist track. Its the perfect place for
all those that want to get away from it all and experience real
laid back Fiji Island live.

Things to do White-sandy
beaches surround the island. At low tide walk out on the
tidal flat and explore the sea live.
Snorkel just off the beach, beach comb, read a book,
play volleyball against the locals, go fishing, just
experience island live.
Visit Levuka the old capital for day trip or take a hike
on Ovalau with Epi to the village of Lovoni which is
located in the caldera of the Ovalau vulcano.
After dinner join the staff around the Kawa bowl (Tanoa)
and listen to their Fijian songs or sit around a bonfire
at the beach with friends and watch the stars in a clear
sky...... On Sundays join the locals on a trip to
Niubasaga, visit the church and enjoy Fijian village
hospitality. |

Accommodation
is in Fijian Bures, thatched huts build in a traditional local
way. They are right a the beach only a stone throw from the
clear waters of the pacific. There are 12 single bures and 8
double bures. Bures are basic but comfortable in their own way.
Beds have mosquito nets, linens are provided. Bures are cleaned
every day. The dormitory is also right next to the beach, it
sleeps a max of 12 people in there.
Facilities are shared.
Toilets are flush, showers are fed by rainwater catchments.
Camping Is available, please bring your own tent and
sleeping bag. |
