Based on the current 2026 regulations, you have some excellent news.
Since you hold a German passport and your trip is only 10 to 12 days, you do not need a visa.
1. The 30-Day Visa-Free Policy
As of early 2026, the Chinese government has extended the unilateral visa-free policy for German citizens through December 31, 2026.
-
Allowed Stay: You can stay for up to 30 days per entry.
-
Purpose: Tourism (which covers your visits to Xingping, Yangshuo, Huangyao, and Guangzhou).
-
Entry Points: This applies whether you enter by train from Hong Kong (the West Kowloon high-speed rail) or by plane/ferry.
2. Your Itinerary Logistics
Your planned route is quite efficient. Here is how it works with the current rules:
-
Hong Kong to Guangxi (Xingping/Yangshuo): You can take the high-speed train directly from Hong Kong West Kowloon to Guilin or Yangshuo stations. You will clear Chinese immigration at the West Kowloon station in Hong Kong.
-
Huangyao Town: This is a beautiful, “undiscovered” ancient town in Hezhou (Guangxi). It’s easily reachable by high-speed rail from Yangshuo.
-
Guangzhou: You can then loop back down to Guangzhou by train before either heading back to Hong Kong or flying out.
3. What You Will Need at the Border
Even though you are visa-free, you must have the following ready for the border officers:
-
Valid German Passport: Must be valid for at least the duration of your stay.
-
Digital Arrival Card: Most travelers now fill this out via a mini-program on WeChat/Alipay or at a kiosk upon arrival.
-
Proof of Onward Travel: Have your flight or train ticket out of mainland China (back to Hong Kong or Germany) ready to show.
-
Hotel Reservations: Keep a copy of your hotel bookings in Yangshuo, Huangyao, and Guangzhou on your phone.
Note on Health: As of 2026, there are no longer any mandatory COVID-19 testing or quarantine requirements for entry into China.
Would you like me to help you find the best high-speed train connections between Yangshuo, Huangyao, and Guangzhou for those dates?
